Catholic advocacy group attacks Kamala Harris over taxpayer-funded sex changes for children

One of the US’s primary Catholic advocacy groups has launched a provocative ad campaign criticising Vice President Kamala Harris for supporting sex-change surgeries for children funded by taxpayers’ dollars.

The video ads by CatholicVote, reported to be the largest and most significant Catholic advocacy group in the country, began airing on 16 September, at the start of the week, in four key swing states – Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Nevada and Michigan – with the intent to “target Catholic voters and households with children”, reports the New York Post, which acquired exclusive access to the ads.

The ads, which are estimated to have cost in the region of six figures and which, like most pugilistic political ads in the US these days, do not pull any punches, cite Medicaid data that illustrate the number of sex-change surgeries performed on children in various states across the US.

The video’s voice-over lists the number of children impacted in a particular state, while describing underage girls having “their breasts completely removed”, how “underage girls underwent hysterectomies”, and listing “sex change operations attempting to make young boys into girls” and “penis amputations”.

The ad continues: “Sound weird? Disgusting? It is. And you’re paying for it.”

“Kamala Harris supports these taxpayer-funded sex-change operations. A vote for Harris: a vote for medical experiments on kids,” the voice-over goes on to say.

The New York Post notes that the Harris-Biden administration recently reaffirmed its stance on children being allowed to undergo transgender surgery – funded by US taxpayers – as long as a child’s parents and doctors approve of it.

While the administration has said it believes the surgery should typically be done for adults, it has also said that it won’t stop children from undergoing the life-altering procedures if the above conditions are met.

The Post cites an email, obtained by The Advocate, in which Neera Tanden, director of the White House Domestic Policy Council, states:

“We continue to fight state and national bans on gender-affirming care, which represents a continuum of care, and respect the role of parents, families and doctors – not politicians – in these decisions.”

Since becoming the Democratic presidential nominee, Harris has not laid out a campaign policy on transgender surgeries, or one that differs from the policy pursed by the administration she has been part of as vice president.

“Most people have no idea of the size, scope and money involved in the trans agenda being pushed on our kids,” Brian Burch, president of CatholicVote, told the Post.

“Physically healthy boys and girls are having their genitals and sexual organs destroyed, and Kamala Harris and her Democratic allies in the Senate not only thinks that’s acceptable but are forcing taxpayers to pay for it.”

CatholicVote describes itself as “a community of patriotic Americans who believe that the timeless truths of the Catholic faith are good for America”. It states that it is not funded or administered by the US Catholic Bishops, saying its funding comes entirely from the members of “a layperson-led effort of Americans who fully support the teachings of the Catholic Church”.

When Robert F. Kennedy Jr dropped out of the US presidential race and at the same time officially endorsed former President Donald Trump’s bid for the presidency, he told people to support Trump against Kamala Harris based on what he sees as a “war on our children”.

“I reached my decision through deep prayer, hard-nosed logic, and I asked myself what choices must I make to maximise my chances to save America’s children and restore national health,” Kennedy said in his address confirming the end of his campaign.
