St. Marinus

St. Marinus, a 4th-century stonecutter from the island of Rab (modern-day Croatia), is best known as the founder of the tiny Republic of San Marino, one of the oldest republics in the world. Marinus fled his homeland during the persecution of Christians under Emperor Diocletian. Seeking refuge, he traveled to the Italian mainland and eventually settled on Mount Titano, where he established a small Christian community.
